Dear Faculty,
Following up on the email sent by the Provost’s office yesterday, Instructional Technology Services would like to share three main online asynchronous teaching tools available to everyone, VoiceThread, Panopto, and Moodle.

VoiceThread

  • What is VoiceThread?
    • VoiceThread allows you to have threaded conversations via voice/video. Haverford College has an institutional license so you and your students can access VoiceThread via Moodle.
  • Why do you want to consider using VoiceThread?
    • You can use VoiceThread if you usually ask your students to do in-class presentations or discuss images in class.
  • How do you add VoiceThread to your Moodle course?
  • How can you learn more about VoiceThread?
    • You can watch the webinar  “Preparing for School Closures with VoiceThread” that happened last week.
  • 26 Interesting ways to use VoiceThread
  • You can use build assignment using VoiceThread as well.

Panopto

  • What is Panopto?
    • You probably know Panopto as our lecture capture system. However, you can use Panopto to create videos with your own computer and share them with your students. Haverford College has an institutional license so you and your students can access Panopto via Moodle.
  • Why do you want to consider using Panopto?
    • You can use Panopto to create instructional videos with your own computer and share them with your students. 
  • How do you add Panopto to your Moodle course?
  • How can you learn more about Panopto?
    • We are offering one onsite (@Stokes 205) workshop next week.
      • Tuesday, March 10, 2020 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm (ET) by Instructional Technology Services
        • Everything you need to know to create recordings with Panopto, including hidden features of the program, like embedded quizzing and note taking. No registration needed. Just show up!

Moodle

  • What is Moodle?
  • Moodle is our learning management system. You can use Moodle to send email to your students and share files, but you can do more!
  • What else can you do with Moodle?
  • Moodle Forums allows students to share and discuss ideas and files. 
  • The Moodle Assignment tool provides a way to deliver and collect assigned homework. 
  • The Moodle Quiz activity helps you deliver and grade assessments. 
  • How can you learn more about Moodle?
  • We are offering two workshops (one onsite and one webinar) next week.
  • Monday, March 9, 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm onsite (@Stokes 205)
    • Get Started with Moodle: If you are not yet comfortable logging onto Moodle, emailing students, and posting readings, etc., this course is for you. You do not need to register. Just show up!
  • Wednesday, March 11, 9:30 am – 10:30 am webinar 
    • Moodle for Active Learning: Use Moodle for discussions and assessments. You do not need to register. Just join us online
